Sharon is quilting in Lewisburg, Kentucky. And carrying on a wonderful traditional art form. A long time ago, every scrap of cloth was valuable, so when clothes or other items began to wear out, they would be cut into pieces and then pieced together with other bits of cloth in an incredibly varied number of ways. Each pattern has a name, and many have a story behind the name. A finished quilt also told it’s own story, as people remembered the clothes the pieces came from and the people who wore the clothes.
Of course, now new cloth is used to make quilts and in a far greater number of colors available than back then.
